extreme horror website would be complete without an
Asian Horror feature. Asian horror films are horror, thriller and suspense films made in Asian countries, including Thailand, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and India, that generally follow the conventions of J-Horror (Japan) and K-Horror (Korea). Here's the Horror Extreme top ten countdown of our favorite Asian Horror movies (in no particular order).
Ôdishon (Audition) - Tartan Asia Extreme
Audition is the story of Shigeharu Aoyama, a middle-aged widower who lost his wife to an illness 7 years prior, who is urged by his son to begin dating women again. Aoyama and his friend (who is a movie producer) decide to hold a fake audition in which young, attractive women would audition for the "part" of Aoyama's new wife, under the impression of auditioning for a starring role in a new movie. The widower ultimately becomes besotted with one particular young woman, Asami Yamazaki... but first impressions can often be horribly wrong! Directed By:

Battle Royale - Tartan Asia Extreme
At the dawn of the new millennium, Japan is in a state of near-collapse. With schoolchildren boycotting their lessons and physically abusing their teachers, a beleaguered and near-defeated government decides to introduce a radical new measure: The Battle Royale Act in which a randomly chosen school class be taken to a deserted island and forced to fight each other to death. When Yoshimi’s marriage breaks down, she and her daughter are forced to find a new place to live. Eventually they have to settle for an apartment in a gloomy, run down block of flats. Once there, the discovery of a schoolbag left behind by a mysterious young girl and the appearance of damp patches on the ceiling and walls begin to haunt them. Soon they discover the sinister truth behind these events as the intensity increases to an almost unbearably nerve-shredding climax! Directed By:

Visitor Q - Tartan Asia Extreme
When shamed reporter Kiyoshi Yamazaki visits one of Japan’s many
comfort houses to make a documentary about sex and violence amongst the nations youth he is somewhat surprised to encounter his daughter. Soon after he meets ‘Q’ and invites him to stay at his family home. Soon after entering this dysfunctional world, ‘Q’ sets about teaching each family member a unique and life-changing lesson. Shogun Assassin - Vipco’s Vaults of Horror
This movie has been banned since 1983 but is at long last approved UNCUT!Astonishingly violent –
Shogun Assassin tells the story of Lone Wolf, a powerful and feared “Masterless” samurai who lives a peaceful life with his wife and son. When he refuses to swear allegiance to Kurando, the most vicious shogun in Jpanese history, Kurando orders the death of lone wolf’s wife. Blinded by rage, Lone Wolf vows to avenge her death, taking his son with him on the path of darkness and retribution. This movie sits in the martial arts genre but there is more than enough horror and gore for it to sit comfortably in this list!
Ringu AKA Ring - Tartan Asia Extreme
Within a week of watching a mysterious video tape, a group of teenagers are dead. Their bodies are found gruesomely contorted and their eyes frozen as if they had seen something more terrifying that any physical threat. The video becomes an urban myth and an unseen force is pointing its deadly finger at those poor souls unable to resist their curiosity. A truly terrifying horror! Directed By:

Ichi the Killer - Tokyo Shock

Ju-On (The Grudge) - Lions Gate
A volunteer home care worker, Rika, enters the home of a bed-ridden patient and discovers a strange ghostly presence lurking behind a door sealed with duct tape. Her discovery unleashes a horrible evil which baffles police investigators, who find that a whole series of people have gone missing from this particular house. Further investigation leads to Toyama, a former detective who handled the case of a man who murdered his wife in the house, but whose son was never found. But when the angry "Ju-On" spirit of vengeance that has infected the house reaches beyond its boundaries, Rika realises that the horror is spreading... Directed By:

Pulse - Magnolia
The movie centers on ghosts invading the world of the living via the Internet. The film is a philosophical exploration into the alienation and loneliness of modern existence thanks to technology and more specifically, the Internet. Often referred to as one of the scariest films ever made, Pulse tells the story of a group of young friends rocked by the sudden suicide of one of their own, and his subsequent, ghostly reappearance in grainy computer and video images.
