Stacy: Attack of the Schoolgirl Zombies - School's Out... Forever!

If you ever find yourself stuck for what movie to watch and you think that you might like to watch a twisted love story disguised as a gore filled, Asian zombie flick then Stacy (also known as Stacy: Attack of the Schoolgirl Zombies) is the movie that you need. Based on a popular Japanese novel by Kenji Otsuki, Stacy is a black comedy featuring over the top gore, chainsaws, ass-kicking Japanese schoolgirls, zombies and plenty of "in" jokes from the zombie movie world.

In the early 21st century the world is struck by an epidemic that kills girls between the age of 15 and 17. Before the girls meet their untimely death they experience a period of intense bliss know as NDH (Near Death Happiness) and then they die and resurrect as ravenous flesh eating zombies nicknamed a "Stacy".

The world is in turmoil due to the outbreak of the mysterious disease and parents are encouraged to kill and dismember their daughters before they succumb to the zombifying effects, these body parts can be left is designated pick up areas to be disposed of by the government body responsible for controlling the Stacy epidemic. The only other people legally allowed to kill a Stacy apart from loved ones are the "Romero Repeat Kill Troops", a repeat-kill is the term used for killing the resurrected schoolgirls.

Due to the zombie-legislation many schoolgirls make it their mission in life to find love before the onset of NDH, basically they are choosing a lover and a murderer. One such schoolgirl decides that the man to kill her is a local puppeteer. The two fall deeply in love and the movie revolves around the lovers and the schoolgirls impending doom.

As a side plot, three schoolgirls decide to flout the law and offer to kill Stacy's for parents that can't bring themselves to do it, for a price of course. One of their missions leads the girls to a military base where the government is conducting extensive test on the undead to try and find a cure for the epidemic. Just as the greatest discovery about the Stacy phenomenon is about to be uncovered (the "Butterfly Twinkle Powder" or BTP that accumulates on the Stacy's skin), a love struck soldier releases the captured undead in a bid to be reunited with his lover and zombie-chaos ensues.

Don't expect to be frightened by Stacy but do expect to highly entertained and grossed out by some hardcore gore. There are a number of references to other classic zombie movies such as the "Romero Repeat Kill Troops" and the ultimate Stacy killing fashion accessory "Bruce Campbell's Right Hand", a chainsaw attachment for your hand to make dismemberment as easy as taking candy from a baby (unless the baby happens to be in The Unborn). You can easily see the direction that the movie is going in due to the cover warning that "This film contains scenes with chainsaws, graphic gore, extreme violence and girls in bunny outfits".

This was a marvellous movie, funny, emotional, tons of gore and that strange cultural Japanese charm. You need to see this movie.
