Horror Extreme Blog - Cubes - Horror Cubed

I really loved the movie Cube, plenty of creative gore and although it had a very basic (almost non-existent) storyline, Vincenzo Natali managed to pull it off. A lot of people criticize the movie but for me it is definitely a classic.

As you can imagine I was quite excited when "Zone Horror" aired the other two, although I think I may have watched them in the wrong order!

Cube Zero was almost as good as the first, once again a sparse and cryptic storyline and enough guts to satisfy my bloodlust. I’m assuming by the title it was a prequel and the story did give a bit of an insight into the Cube. Once again I think it was the simplicity of it all that appealed to me and the director managed to keep the suspense going.

Cube 2: Hypercube was probably the weakest of the three movies for me. They tried to complicate the Cube concept and it became a bit of an arena for showing off with special effects and trying to introduce more complex characters. The movie would have made a good screensaver, and I did like the bluntness of the ending.

I’ll have to see if there’s a boxed set of the trilogy, I’ll definitely invest in it (if I ever have any cash!)
