Horror Extreme Blog - Puppets from Somewhere Near Hell

I’ve just seen the first instalment of the Puppet Master franchise (I'm guessing there's about a million sequels). To be honest I wasn't too impressed, but I think the concept is brilliant and am expecting the sequels to be more gore and mindless-violence orientated!

I think what let this one down for me was that the puppets didn't star as much as they should have. The storyline was based around the Puppetmaster and his psychic friends and the puppets didn't get much of a look in. Also the puppets weren't as evil as they could have been and by the end of the movie you were kind of relating to them as the good guys.

The puppets each had their own little "talents", there was the spooky looking one with the knife and the hook for hands, the leech vomiting sexy doll, one with a drill-like device for a head and the weirdly-animated, tiny-headed muscle puppet (I'm sure they used human hands for the close up shots). They were potentially good characters but I don’t feel they were used to their full potential. (Oh, and there was the spinny head thing... but he was about as much use as one of those future predicting eight balls!)

I’ve noticed Puppetmaster 2 is on soon and I’m quite looking forward to it, usually with this type of horror movie they peak on the second one and then start to get progressively ridiculous. I expect I'll watch them all though!
