Lucio Fulci is a God when it comes to zombie movies and as I was getting a bit bored of Asian Horror so I was quite excited when a friend of mine gave me a DIVX of "The Beyond".
This was NOT your average zombie movie, the storyline was quite complex and the build up of suspense and the not-being-quite-sure-what’s-going-on factor made for a very creepy movie. When the gore happened it was extreme and there was at least three of Fuchi’s trademark eye-gore scenes. There was the thumb in the eye socket, the tarantulas eating the eyes and the nail through the back of the head and out through the eye at the front.
This built up to about fifteen minutes of traditional mindless-zombie-wandering-around-splatter (which was great) and then the ending... well, I won’t tell you but it wasn’t your traditional everything’s-fine ending.
