Horror Extreme Blog - The Unborn AKA Born Too Near the End
Posted on: 06/05/2007
I'd heard a lot of bad horror reviews about The Unborn but I know how wildly wrong reviews can be (or maybe how far from the norm my taste in horror movies is) so I watched it! I must admit that it was quite slow to begin with but I enjoyed watching the director trying to put across the irrational fear of genetics (which was all the rage back in 1991 when the movie was released) and I saw quite a bit of potential for bad taste at the movies climax.
The movie was about a woman who goes for "ground-breaking" fertility treatment after a number of miscarriages, and instead gets inseminated with mutant baby genes by an evil doctor. I was not disappointed as the bad taste was delivered (unfortunately about 75 minutes into the movie) as the mutant baby survives an abortion and a stay in a dumpster then goes on a killing spree. The effects weren't that brilliant but the concept of a mutant killing baby quite appealed to me. Hopefully The Unborn 2 will give the killer baby more air time (and hopefully step up the horror).
