Horror Extreme Blog - The Second Mother

Posted on: 07/25/2007

The second instalment of Dario Argento's "Three Mothers Trilogy" is "Inferno". This follows on from "Suspiria" with the discovery of the second mother, Mater Tenebrarum, mentioned in the ancient mythology that is the basis of the trilogy.

Mark, played by Leigh McCloskey, receives a desperate phone call from his sister in New York describing some conspiracy going on in her spooky apartment building. Mark (who is currently studying music in Rome) rushes to her aid only to be faced with an empty room and some obscure clues hinting at something supernatural in the bowels of the building.

The plot follows a similar storyline to "Suspiria" (although not quite as coherent), once again the tension is maintained and the horror is horrific when it happens. Many reviewers have criticized this movie when compared to "Suspiria" but I think it's just as good. A worthy sequel and I can't wait until the third mother arrives.
