Geoffrey Whitehead

'Geoffrey Whitehead' (born 1 October 1939 in Sheffield) is a highly regarded English actor. He has appeared in a huge range of television, film and radio roles. In the theatre, he has played at the Shakespeare Globe, St. Martin's Theatre and Bristol Old Vic. His television appearances include Z-Cars (1964–1965 and 1972–1975), Holmes in the 1980 television series Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, Richard Smith in Second Thoughts (1991–1994), The House of Eliott (1991), Executive Stress and The Worst Week of My Life. He is regularly seen on British television as well as filling many roles on radio, where he featured in the BBC Radio 4 comedy series Old Harry's Game, as "Prior Robert" in the 1980s BBC radio dramatisations of "Cadfael" and as "John Barsad" in the radio dramatization of Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities. Geoffrey Whitehead is a very versatile actor, with a characteristic and flexible voice. He is at home with dramatic and comic roles; he also has a fine sense of comic timing and delivery. He has starred on BBC radio in many comic roles. At any given time, one or more of his roles can be heard on BBC Radio outlets, typically BBC Radio 4 or BBC 7. Since BBC 7 is dedicated to repeats of classic series, he is particularly well-represented there.
