What could a horror movie called Slugs possibly be about? Any random person would guess that it's probably about some kind of killer slug/slugs that wreak havoc on an unsuspecting town, and of course in this case they would be correct. This 1988 low budget gross out movie, based on a book of the same name, actually manages to deliver a solid onslaught of gory Z-grade entertainment. Bottom of the barrel acting, special effects...If you're even looking at this product I really don't think I need to go into any more depth as to what we're dealing with here.
The story is one you've heard a thousand times before. Careless city workers dump toxic waste where it doesn't belong, it accidentally seeps into somewhere it doesn't belong and it mutates something, in this case slugs. Getting around through the city sewer system, the giant flesh eating slugs make hearty meals out of the unsuspecting victims while the city health inspector tries to track down the source of the slimy pests.
My only gripe with Slugs: Now what would be the coolest, not to mention the most obvious way to rid the city of all these slugs? Anyone in their right mind would say "Pour salt on them and watch them melt!" But do these geniuses in the movie think of that? Of course not. Instead they come up with this asinine scheme to pour dangerous chemicals into the city sewer system and blow the slugs up, keeping in mind that they are confident that this explosion may just as easily destroy the whole city!
But I'm reading too deeply into this. Slugs is actually an entertaining flick loaded with gore (One guy's head explodes with baby slugs!), stunningly absurd dialogue such as "When I get back...Lets get naked and go crazy", and surprisingly the slugs are real! Yes, they actually rounded up thousands of these rather large slugs to use here, which is sort of impressive I guess...Beats fake slugs anyway. Overall this movie is 90 minutes of sheer ridiculousness, a gory and unintentionally hilarious piece of mostly forgotten 80's horror. I recommend it for fans of campy B-movies.

Poor acting and the term over-dramatic just doesn't say enough. I won't even talk about how slow you have to be moving to escape Slugs. However, if you're into the old B movies I've seen worse.
