Editorial Review - Amazon.com

After 11 years in development hell and screenplay drafts by 13 different writers, the long-awaited smackdown of Freddy vs. Jason finally arrives. After making their respective debuts in Friday the 13th (1980) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), the hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger, replacing long-time Jason performer Kane Hodder) and razor-gloved Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) square off in a slasher-franchise combo-deal that only their most devoted fans will appreciate; turns out this is a lightweight match in which nobody wins. It's an average entry in the histories of these horror icons, comparable to half of their previous sequels, and Bride of Chucky director Ronny Yu satisfies purists with plenty of gushing blood and mayhem when Freddy recruits Jason to slice 'n' dice the ill-fated teens who've forgotten Freddy's once-formidable reign of terror. While it logically connects the gruesome legacies of Nightmare's Elm Street and Friday's Camp Crystal Lake, this horror hybrid is shockingly uninspired. It briefly peaks when Freddy gives the unconscious Jason a dream-world pummeling, but their ultimate showdown's a draw. In the immortal words of Peggy Lee, is that all there is? --Jeff Shannon

Better than I was expecting.

Both franchises are dead and buried.
Freddy after part 3.
Jason after part 2.
Hollyweird just HAS to continue to milk the two franchises for all their worth.
I saw this in the theater and yes there are a few jump out of your chair scenes.
The gore is by the bucket load.
It's a guilty pleasure, I just hope they don't bring Michael Myers into the next one.
Leave Halloween alone.
It's worth a rental if your bored and it's a stormy night.
And it's SOOOO cool to see the original Ms. Vorhees in this.
Just don't expect anything classic.

It's Worth It.

Okay, it's not cinema gold or anything but as a late night movie, 'Freddy Vs. Jason' is super-sweet fun!
We'd all been waiting for it, now here it is. I saw this in the theatre and didn't really know what to expect and to be completely honest I was a little disappointed at first. A couple of scenes bothered me but really had nothing to do with the concept of the film and the ending was smart and very cool. Years later I started thinking about this movie again and just had to get my hands on it. Since it's been a few years since it's release the price was good and when it arrived I watched it right away. The writers really did do a great job incorporating both worlds and resurrections. I'm sure there's some plot holes but 'cmon, if we were all that serious about stuff like that we'd never enjoy serial flicks like this...especially like this.
The second go around was a great experience. I found myself watching it again a week later just 'cause..you know. And to me if a film can stand up to repeated viewing then it's made it's mark as a good movie.
The scenes that bothered me when I first saw it in the theatre didn't bother me as much but the sweet impact of the scene in the cornfield lost a little of it's luster for some reason.
Anyway, if you're a fan of these series or just enjoy a unique midnight movie then you really can't go wrong with 'Freddy Vs. Jason'.
I had no complaints with the DVD treatment, if anything I think the studio went a little above and beyond considering the nature of the film but it's cool.
I can definitely say I'm proud to own 'Freddy Vs. Jason'.
